    Introduction by Kerry Hill

Architecture Bali was a trailblazing book, which has had several print runs.

The book approached the resort architecture of Bali as a genuinely significant typology. Architecture Bali was not just a coffee-table book, and this approach inspired a new genre of publishing and critique.

Architecture Bali was conceived and photographed by Patrick Bingham-Hall, and written by Philip Goad. Jodi Anderson's ornate graphic design captures the true spirit of Bali's exotic tradition.

Ten landmark Balinese hotels are featured, and documented with internal and external photographs, drawings and project text. Although these resorts have been hugely influential and endlessly copied, their sophistication and ambience will never be surpassed.

The architects include Peter Muller, Palmer and Turner, Kerry Hill, Ed Tuttle, and John Heah. Critical to the book's impact was the extensive coverage of earlier Balinese works by Geoffrey Bawa, Donald Friend, and Walter Spies.

The comprehensive essay by Philip Goad is now regarded as an essential text on tropical architecture and the development of the resort hotel.

The ten resorts featured… The Oberoi Bali, the Bali Hyatt, Amandari, Amanusa, Four Seasons at Jimbaran Bay, Amankila, The Serai, Ibah, The Chedi Ubud, and the Four Seasons at Sayan.
